Dispersing insoluble active pharmaceutical ingredients into delivery media requires the correct level of shear to be applied. Too little and the dispersion will be poor; too much and the API may be damaged.
Additionally, any mixer must be flexible enough to cope with new formulations, varying viscosity and strict hygiene requirements. Jacketing and internal cooling for temperature control of the API are also needed.
A DCM from Maelstrom can be used for general purpose dispersion duties, with shear adjustment using speed and geometry variations. Selecting the Hygienic option means that special polished finishes are offered together with certain design features such as:
- Hygienic seals - single or double mechanical seals,
- Increased flushing volumes behind the rotor,
- FDA-approved materials,
- Sealed fasteners, and
- Laser-marked components (to comply with surface finish).
