Low to medium viscosity fluid mixing applications where standard high shear mixers cannot provide sufficient performance but where a pressurised system mixer such as the UMH or a high pressure homogeniser would not be necessary.

The range of DCH machines is highly customisable but generally covers the following ranges of performance:

Based on the patented Fluid Division Mixing (FDM) geometry, the DCH uses a combination of inter-cavity transfer and high speed hydraulic shear to distribute and disperse.  The number of cavity rows in the rotor and stator parts can be varied to favour energy transfer or throughput, but 3 or 4 rows are used for most applications.  The internal design means that all of the fluid must pass through each cavity row and be involved in the shearing process.  Avoidance of "bypass" allows for much tighter distributions of resulting droplet and particle sizes than would be expected from a conventional high shear mixer.

The additional rotational speed capability of the DCH compared to the DCM, provides higher energy transfer to the fluid for improved shearing performance.  For many materials, this results in smaller droplet and particle sizes and product quality gains.  The typical operating window for most DCH dispersion and emulsification applications is in the sub-micron mean diameter range (a few hundred nanometres).
