Efficient inline blending of shear-sensitive fluids

Many liquid-liquid and solid-liquid mixing applications involve materials that are delicate and can easily be damaged by shear forces. A typical traditional approach is the use of batch mixing vessels with gentle agitation over long periods to ensure good blending whilst minimizing damage. For high viscosity fluids and processes that need inline, continuous solutions, batch mixing is far from ideal. Maelstrom’s range of inline ultra-low shear FDM machines provides the answer for a wide variety of materials such as plastics, rubber, adhesives, foods and pharmaceuticals.

Based on well-proven inter-cavity transfer mixing principles but with lower cost, improved cleanability and enhanced mixing performance, the DCL range of low shear FDM machines offer extremely low pressure drops and gentle handling when delivering effective blending results. We’ve just returned from a successful Chemtech 2011 show on the stand of our licensee in India, Chempro Technovation. Held over four days at the NSE Complex in Mumbai, Chemtech gave us a great opportunity to meet customers new and old and to gauge the feel of the industrial mixing market in India. There’s no question that the demand for high performance mixing is growing strongly in India, driven by consumer demand for sophisticated formulations and high volumes. We look forward to expanding our efforts in this exciting market with our partners, Chempro.

A new approach to marketing Maelstrom mixers

At last! We are pleased to announce that the long process of revising and consolidating our product range has been completed and that we can finally present it more usefully in a new brochure and website. Thanks go to the team at Fluid Creativity in Manchester for helping with the site.

We realised some time ago that whilst we had a great range of innovative products, we were not the easiest company to buy from. The plethora of technologies and solutions seemed baffling, even to experienced process engineers. A complete rethink of the line-up was required together with a major innovation in our industry – online pricing of mixers. For the first time, customers can get a quote directly from the website for the standard ranges of machines. Of course, selection of a mixer is not simple and this is why online purchasing is probably a step too far for the time being. However, the ability to at least get an idea of prices and the effects of certain options on the price has to make life easier for both customers and us.
