How long has Maelstrom been established?
Why are you based in Glossop, England?
Apart from being a very attractive place to live (on the edge of the Peak District National Park), Glossop is located near the industrial heartland of the North-West of England. Good communications to Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Humberside and Birmingham make it easy to work with the majority of our customers and suppliers. The Manchester area is also recognised as an area of particular excellence in machine manufacture with many suppliers to the aerospace, high technology automotive and nuclear industries. This makes it easier to access quality manufacturing especially for large, complex machines. Apart from all of this, with some of us being keen outdoor enthusiasts, we can hit the Peak District hills within 10 minutes of leaving work for an evening walk, run or cycle, although there are also plenty of pubs nearby for more normal people!
Where are your machines manufactured?
Large mixers, custom machines and one-offs are manufactured locally to us in the North-West of England. The high level of communications required with experienced precision machining companies makes this necessary for a high quality machine to be delivered on time. Smaller machines in the range are also manufactured in England, where possible, although to be price-competitive we purchase certain simple components and machine sub-assemblies from China. Components such as mechanical seals, o-rings, motors etc. are sourced from UK suppliers although many of these components may be made outside of the UK. Maelstrom uses only the highest quality components from reputable manufacturers with proper service and support networks because machine reliability is an essential part of the supply. A failed mixer component can bring an entire production process to a halt, so providing cheap components in critical areas is almost always a false economy.
Can you provide references and case studies?
Yes. Some case studies are already provided on this site but if you would like further examples of how Maelstrom machines are being used, then please contact us. Please bear in mind that the confidential nature of our work at the heart of many of our customers’ production processes means that we have to be a little circumspect with some of the information we provide. We can usually not name customers or product lines directly as we have signed confidentiality agreements preventing us from doing so. On the other hand, this should give you confidence that we will not be telling the world all about your production processes either.
Who are your main customers?
As we work in the sphere of high performance mixing and are often the “supplier of last resort” for difficult mixing problems, much of our work is for large process companies. Most of these are household names around the world. Unfortunately, for confidentiality reasons we are unable to name most of our customers.
How will you use any contact details I give you?
Purely for direct communication with you. Your details will be kept confidential within Maelstrom and will never be passed on to any third party unless we are legally required to do so by a Government authority.
How will you use any commercial and technical information I give you?
Our policy is to keep all information you provide confidential, even without a specific confidentiality agreement being signed. Any materials you provide to us including samples, recipes, drawings etc. can be returned to you at any time you ask although we will keep some information on the work done with you for our own records.
Will you sign a non-disclosure or secrecy agreement before we talk?
Normally, yes. We have a standard template that we can e-mail to you or please send us a copy of your own standard agreement for us to look at. We normally ask that any confidentiality agreement is bilateral, i.e. that you will also keep information we provide to you confidential. We find that this allows a freer exchange of information in technical and commercial communications. There are some circumstances where we will not enter into a confidentiality agreement, especially if we suspect that our intellectual property rights may be compromised by doing so. In such cases we may suggest a co-development agreement or some other vehicle for collaboration.
