What countries does Maelstrom supply to?

From its UK base, Maelstrom supplies mainly to countries within Europe and North America. Licensees in China, Japan and India also supply Maelstrom-designed machines within their respective countries.

Is there a local distributor/agent I can talk to?

Please see the contacts list for details.

If I get a price from your website, what happens next?

You can simply print off a price and specification from our website and then email or fax it to us to obtain a definitive fixed and firm quotation. We will call or email you to confirm any outstanding specification points or questions you may have at this stage. Once you have a fixed quotation from us, you can send us an order and we will then confirm it before starting work on your order. Smaller machines are often ex-stock but larger machines or those with special options are made to order.

What are your normal commercial terms?

For smaller machines, payment is required in advance. For large machines, special customisation and complex projects, we would normally establish a credit account for customers with some payment at the start of the project and then stage payments based on delivery progress. Stage payments are typically on net 30 day terms.

Do you offer machines for trials on loan or hire?

Certain mixers in the range are available for hire, subject to availability, for periods of up to a month. There are some restrictions including not using on toxic, difficult to clean materials etc. We also ask that customers take responsibility for the machines and underwrite them for damage, repair and cleaning. For hire, a discount is normally offered if a machine of the same or larger size is ordered within 6 months of the end of the hire period. Please call or email us to obtain a hire quotation and confirm machine availability.

What kinds of machines are available for hire?

Mostly the smaller laboratory scale and pilot scale mixers. The difficulty of setting up and running larger mixers in a customer facility and the more specialised nature of larger machines does not normally make hiring them a cost-effective option. Maelstrom has a range of modelling tools and considerable experience in supporting customers with sizing mixers based on trial results from smaller machines. For the types of mixers supplied by Maelstrom, it is not always necessary to test at full scale.

Do you offer a performance warranty for my application?

No. We do not warrant the performance of any machine in a given application because we cannot be certain that the machine is being used correctly, that the materials are behaving in exactly the way originally specified and that the results can be clearly and accurately measured. Having said that, our high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business reflect the efforts we go to in ensuring that each Maelstrom machine works the way the customer expects.

How are machines packed and shipped?

All machines for export are packed in lined wooden crates using certified timber and then shipped/road freighted or air freighted depending on the customer’s wishes. Larger machines destined for the UK market are packed in the same way but smaller machines may be packed in double-walled cardboard boxes. Road freight or courier are the normal transport methods in the UK. A hard copy of the user manual accompanies each machine and this specifies special unpacking and handling procedures where these are necessary for a larger machine.

What are your typical delivery times?

Some small mixers in the range with a limited number of options are available ex-stock. Machines made to order usually take 4-6 weeks although larger machines may take up to 12 weeks depending on the degree of complexity and custom design effort involved. All machines are tested on water or a suitable test fluid before shipping, where this is possible. This typically takes 2-3 days and is included in the times given above.

What certification comes with each machine?

For machines supplied within the European Economic Area (EEA), a CE Declaration of Conformity is provided, signed by a Maelstrom director. Machines supplied to export markets will have a signed declaration or other certification as mandated by local regulations, by agreement with the customer.

What warranty comes with each machine?

Every machine supplied by Maelstrom carries a 12 month full parts and labour warranty against mechanical and electrical defects subject to fair wear and tear and damage caused by the customer. No process warranty is supplied, i.e. Maelstrom does not warrant that a machine will perform as the customer requires in their particular application. The customer must be satisfied prior to purchase that the machine is suited to their needs. Maelstrom will also not accept liability for consequential damages in the event of a machine failure and its liability is limited to the value of the machine in all cases.
